Credit Cards & Payment Systems
Do you need to accept online payments through your website or shopping cart?
Adding online payment systems to your website can greatly increase sales, credibility and effectiveness of your website. Our experience is considerable when it comes to integrating online payment systems into websites! We are a recognised partner for a number of New Zealand based processing companies - and have performed integrations with all major NZ payment systems.
So what do you need - and how do you get it?
There are a number of methods and systems that can be used to enable online payments for your business. Of course all come with varying complexities and varying costs. Here are some of the most common options:
Payment Processing via a system on another website(also known as 3rd party hosted). This method allows you visitor to shop on your website as normal, however when the shopper wants to check out and pay for the products, they are redirected to a different website to enter their credit card details. Once the payment is processed, the shopper is returned back to your website automatically and your shopping system is notified of the successful or unsuccessful payment.
Pros - Easiest and quickest integration. Often the cheapest to setup. Security is handled by the 3rd party website, not you. You do not necessarily need a merchant account.
Cons - Can be more expensive ongoing. Can sometimes be a little confusing for your clients if they are redirected to a seperate website.
Some examples of 3rd party hosted payment providers:
Paypal - paypal.com
2Checkout - 2checkout.com
Paymate - paymate.co.nz
DPS - dps.co.nz
Worldpay - worldpay.com
Paystation - paystation.co.nz
Payment processing via your own website (2 party processing). This method allows your visitors to shop on your website and submit their credit card details through your website (i.e. the client does not leave your site). Your website then processes the payment by "talking" directly to a payment processing company. We highly recommend (this will often be a requirement by your bank) you have your website hosted on a PCI Compliant server if you will be storing customer credit card data. (Jethost can supply this)
Pros -Customer does not leave your website, they stay on your site at all times. Appears more professional. Can be cheaper ongoing.
Cons - More expensive set up and longer integration time. Security is your responsibility.
Some example payment processors:
Paystation - paystation.co.nz
DPS - dps.co.nz
WIPS - Westpac.co.nz
Manual / Offline Processing. This method allows your customers to enter their credit card details into your website. However, the credit card does not get automatically charged. You are required to manually enter the credit card details into an offline or seperate credit card processing system. To use this system you will need to host your website on a PCI Compliant server (Jethost can supply this).
Pros. Can be simple and cost effective to implement. You can manually do fraud checks on each transaction.
Cons. Not suitable for large amounts of transactions. You cannot process the sale in realtime.
Some possible manual / offline payment processors:
Paystation - paystation.co.nz
DPS - dps.co.nz
Worldpay - worldpay.com
Most banks will be able to offer you a solution.
